Welcome to Thornthistle Bostons and ThornyBull Frenchies
Let me tell you a bit about myself...
I grew up on a farm with animals as my childhood companions. I had a pet pig named Porky, a cow named Tubbs that I trained to ride, a pigeon named Cochise and various cats, farm dogs and horses. My grandfather trained horses and stressed to me the importance of a good sound animal with correct structure not only in horses but in any animal you dealt with as well as a great temperament. His teachings has followed me through my life and that is what I continue to strive for. I like an all-around animal, be it a horse or a dog. One that can do halter or conformation and has the brains, soundness and savvy to do performance work as well. I have had many dogs as companions over the years and many were unwanted dogs that people dumped. All became a part of our life and family. I started out showing many years ago (we won't go into how many years ago that was) with a Dalmatian and a Dobie in obedience. My daughter took the Dal over and I showed the Dobie to earn her CD. Then I found 2 other Dals and they completed their CD's as well. One won High Scoring Dal in a run off at the Des Moines show which was great as it was a weak exercise for him and he performed it perfectly. |
Then my daughter wanted to pursue conformation and that is where the addiction started. She purchased a very nice female which she finished and I purchased a male which went Open Black Dog at the 1988 Dalmatian Nationals in St Louis. I quit breeding Dals in 1993 because of their over population and so many were being destroyed. I just enjoyed the ones I still had until their deaths.
I purchased my first Boston in 1992 strictly as a pet as I didn't think I wanted to get invovled with showing again. I bred one litter and thought, well, we can do better than this so looked for a male I liked and bred to him. I have been continually trying to improve my litters with each breeding and put a lot of thought and time into which dog will go best with each dog I breed.
You will notice on my web site that I have a lot of boys. Not because I breed a lot of litters and need a lot of boys, but because I love my boys. I find them to be awesome companions.
I have to say, I originally bought the Boston because my Husband had always loved them. It was a way to add a house dog after our last rescue died without a lot of resistance. I was always a big dog person until I had my first Boston in my life. I fell in love with their temperment, high degree of inteligence, easy trainablity and athleticism. I was definately hooked on the breed.
A few years ago I added the Frenchies. I can remember looking thru dog books as a child and always thought they was such a funny looking dog and always thought I would want one someday because of their uniqueness. I love the Pieds and probably for the reason I love Paint horses and the flashy aspect of the Bostons and Dals.
I have bred AKC, Can, UKC and INT champions. Some have been multiple BOB and Group placing dogs. One was #2 UKC Boston and he is also titled in weight pulling. I have also bred a Boston that has Rally and obedience titles and he is also a conformation dog going WD from the puppy class at the Heartland Specialty.
We have placed some wonderful puppies in companion homes and all of them need to be companions first and then our wonderful show dogs. I stress to all companion owners to go to obedience or rally classes and find what a wonderful time you have and what a great bonding experience it is with your dog even if you never plan to show. The plus side is you will have an obedient well mannered friend for the rest of it's life.
I hope you enjoy looking around the web site and viewing our dogs and horses as much as I have enjoyed having them in my life and breeding better and better dogs with each breeding.
